Abstract

Rhetorical studies are important, especially with regard to aspects related to persuasive and argumentative language. Thus, this article focuses on Rhetoric as the means through which persuasion operates as a mechanism of influence between individuals and/or between the speaker and the audience. In this way, it seeks to analyze the contributions of the Rhetorical System regarding the construction of the discourse of an academic professor in a virtual broadcast (live), with the aim of highlighting the importance of this rhetorical system for the organization of discourse. The study follows a descriptive and interpretative approach, as it observes the collected data in a procedural and dynamic manner; therefore, it adopts a qualitative line of research, with theoretical support from Flick (2009) and, in the field of Rhetoric, also draws on the methodology proposed by Bauer and Gaskell (2008). The corpus of the study is based on oral manifestations of academic professors during the pandemic period (COVID-19), which take place in live broadcasts available on the Abralin YouTube channel, duly transcribed in accordance with the guidelines of Marcuschi (2003) and Preti (2000). The theoretical framework is based in the works of Aristotle (2011), Ferreira (2022), Marcuschi (2003), Reboul (2004), Santos (2022), among others. The study points to the importance of the argumentative stages constructed throughout the academic professor’s discourse. The relevance of this work lies in the analysis of an academic professor’s discourse in a live broadcast from the perspective of the rhetorical system, as a way of highlighting the construction of this discourse in teaching and learning situations, which may occur either virtually or in person.
