Abstract

I propose that the Spanish edition of Pedro de Ribadeneyra’s Vita Ignatii Loyola uses amplificatio as a strategy to detail aspects of the biography of Ignatius de Loyola. First, I take a look at the history of the amplificatio. Next, I analyze some passages of the Vita that were amplified in its translation from Latin to Spanish. Finally, I point out the possible consequences of these additions –descriptions, reasonings, accumulations, suppressions– in the configuration of Loyola’s biographical image.
