Abstract

The following essay makes reference to the grammar-rhetoric relationship in order to place the analysis in the latter discipline which is described, following Quintiliano, as the art of the speaker. Afterwards it tries to show the extension of the rhetoric vertically and horizontally. In the former, it refers to a usage rhetoric and a necessity rhetoric. In the latter, following Alfonso Reyes, it investigates a certain inspired rhetoric that every speaker has. Finally, it postulates the existence of a rhetoric urge, present in every act of communication, which may act in the acquisition of grammar -acquisition that is guided by a pragmatic object- and it would appear in the aforementioned rhetorics, but also in other persuasive ways of communication characterized as being the antithesis of the rhetoric also known as the art of speaking, such as crying, stammering or even silence.
