Clause Complexes as Tools in the fight for Hegemony an application to the discourse of Manuel Fresco to the farmers in the Argentina of 1936
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article exemplifies the potentiality of clause complexes to elaborate chains of equivalence, keys to construct hegemony. For this, it is analyzed a discourse that the filo-fascist governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Manuel Fresco, gave to the farmers in 1936. The example shows how clause complexes help to construct chains of equivalence where many signifiers are articulated, many times in ambiguous relations between them. In this way, semantic slippages are produced that facilitate the rhetoric goal and complicate the refutation. It was also possible to observe that clause complexes boost the articulation of different levels of enunciation, in a way that it is very difficult to dissociate them.
